Faith in Crisis Academy (FICA)

The Faith In Crisis Academy is a 24-hour course. This course equips faith leaders, and/or their representatives, to respond systematically and with greater effectiveness in serving their own congregations and their surrounding communities in cooperation with the law enforcement and fires service agencies. Practical information provided by experienced and knowledgeable trainers prepares recruits to provide critical incident support to victims of traumatic loss. The Faith In Crisis Academy provides the foundation for all compassion ministries and it is a pre-requisite for each of the LEC-S academies.

Community Chaplain Academy

The Community Chaplains Academy consists of 150-hours of class, lab, and field training. Community Chaplains serve all crime victims and those distressed by traumatic events in the community, alongside sworn and non-sworn police personnel, during actual crisis. Community Chaplain volunteers provide traumatized civilians a compassionate presence in the very worst times of their lives, and only for a limited period of time. Community Chaplain volunteers bring a calming presence to potentially volatile scenes, serve as liaisons between survivors and public safety personnel, help contact and convene survivors' family, friends and clergy, provide a safe environment for survivors to express their anguish, supply information about self-care following traumatic events, provide referrals to agencies offering long-term support, and offer other practical assistance as necessary. The training period is from January – September, ending in a graduation & recognition ceremony.

Law Enforcement Chaplain Academy

The Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Academy consists of 96-hours of class, lab and field training. Law Enforcement Chaplains primarily serve law enforcement employees and their families, and therefore must be licensed, commissioned, or ordained clergy. Law Enforcement Chaplains provide law enforcement families a trusted source of confidence and encouragement day in and day out, in good times and in bad. In contrast to a Community Chaplain, Law Enforcement Chaplains get to know law enforcement personnel and their families over long periods of time by visiting station houses, going on patrol ride-alongs, and attending special ceremonies and events.

High School Peer Support Training

The Peer Counselor Program provides training for studentsinterested in offering support and encouragement to their peersin times of personal challenge. Peer counselors will be trainedin the areas of development of listening skills, crisis and trauma, grief and bereavement, stress resilience, suicide: prevention, intervention, and postvention, and relationships issues.

C2BU training - serving victims of trafficking

As part of the requirements to become a C2BU volunteer there is an extensive and careful application and selection process for volunteer positions at Courage House, a home for children rescued from sex trafficking.  These children have suffered trauma and abuse from adults most of their lives, so it is important that we train and prepare C2BU volunteers in the areas of trauma to appropriately serve these young people.   A large percentage of these vulnerable children have lived transit lives never experiencing the consistent, loving support of a family and home. We at C2BU desire to stop that cycle and provide them a safe home as well as long term, loving relationships with emotionally healthy adults.

In addition to C2BU’s own requirements, the State of California has rigorous regulations for anyone desiring to serve this population. To ensure the State of California regulations are met, C2BU has partnered with two highly respected organizations, the Sacramento Law Enforcement Chaplaincy (SLEC) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to provide the highest training standards and resources for our volunteers. When a C2BU volunteer has completed the application process as well as the required training, they will hold the designation of C2BU Chaplain. This designation is recognized by the juvenile justice court, the FBI and local law enforcement agencies. The C2BU Chaplain identity will allow the volunteer opportunities to be first responders when children are rescued, entrance to juvenile hall to meet with a minor, as well as volunteer at Courage House when it opens and all job/volunteer requirements are met.
